Mixed media box

Good morning!
Welcome to my page! It’s a new month and I am here to share my DT project for Rhedd’s Creative Spirit where the challenge every month is “anything goes, altered art or mixed media”.
I have combined the 2 for this project and this time I have recycled a champagne glass packaging box and used up some paper scraps and bits of pattern papers.
Here is what I started with….
I gessoed the top of the box and then randomly marked the center portion for the focal point where I applied gesso again with a palette knife to give some texture.
Once that dried, I adhered this floral napkin with modge podge in the center.
I cut the paper scraps into 1inch squares and also ended up making a few with gelli printed paper. I loved the bright colors that complimented the flowers.
The paper mosaics were inked around the edges and then stuck to the box.
I then gave a coat of matte medium and some white color splats to finish up the top!
For the closure, I did some blending of colors in contrasting acrylics and then aged up this floral mold that I made with air dry clay.
I applied gesso, dried it and then dry brushed a bit of yellow and orange to compliment the flowers in the vase!
Yes, the boring box got a colorful life
The inside has compartments and can now be used as a keepsake/trinket box.
Do visit the blog to see what the team has in store for you, and hope to see you play along.
Until my next creative journey,
Happy crafting and recycling.
Cheers,
Rupa
